NGO Full-form: NGO or non-government organizations is an organization who work for the welfare of society, without any interventions from government related bodies. Anyone who is dedicated to serving the society can start such an organization by himself or herself, or many people can come together and begin an NGO after selecting the suitable name from the registrar.

Many people start an NGO as a noble cause. They want to help the people in need and the people who are dealing with problems. You can start such an organization for any social problem, e.g. women safety, to help underprivileged children for education, animal care, for welfare of elderly people, victims of natural disaster etc.

The sole purpose of starting an NGO is the betterment of the world we live in. An NGO can function at national and even international level.

You can use your own resources and money to help people, and you can also seek donations. Donations can come from anyone. A government body, businessman, celebrity or local people. The people or companies who donate money to NGOs will get exemption in taxes.

The process to start an NGO: NGO Full-form

Step 1: Identify the field in which you want to work, decide your services which you will be giving to the people in need.

Step 2: Get a team of likeminded people, who are dedicated to work with you for the same cause without any selfish reasons and without any expectations of monetary benefits etc. To get these people who are experts in the particular field you can look in the specific departments e.g. if your organization is based on working for environmental issues, you can search for desired people who studied environmental sciences.

Step 3: Decide an appropriate name for your NGO, the name shouldn’t be too long and difficult to remember. Most important thing is the name you choose should reflect the purpose, the cause of your NGO. Select a unique name which shouldn’t match the existing NGOs, especially shouldn’t match any government body’s name. The name which will be the first impression for your organization, which will describe who you are and what you stand for in the society, so pick the suitable name.

Step 4: Now prepare the documents for legal purposes. Also known as a memorandum, this will contain all the information related to your organization like the purpose, the services, functioning and information about team members etc. Also don’t forget to include the address and the sources from where the funding for the NGO is done.

Step 5: Keep all the documentation required for registering the NGO. You need to know what kind of NGO You will be starting before you prepare the documents. The 3 kinds of NGOs are:

A society: you will be needing at least 7 members to start this one.

A trust: minimum of 2 members are necessary for a trust.

A section 8 company: this is a kind of company basically which has no purpose of making money and profits, you can register as section 8 company as well.

Step 6: Build a network, other than core members of the organization, you will be needing a lot of other people who will help in functioning the NGO, e.g. fundraisers.

Step 7: start to collect the funds, and these can be done through many ways,

  • You can apply to the government portals.
  • You can apply to corporate bodies.
  • You can sell stuff which is made by NGO
  • Social media can be used as a good tool to reach people and get donations.

Types of NGOs according to their level of work on an area basis.

Community based: These types of NGOs work only in the particular communities, and help the poor or needy people in that community only which is mentioned while registering.

City based: In this category, the organization works in the chosen city and creates awareness throughout the city about the ways for the betterment of lifestyle and living standards in the city.

State level: The whole state is covered in state level NGOs, they can work together with multiple organizations and groups so that they can spread the services and needs to more and more people throughout the state.
