Books for Maths Optional: All UPSC aspirants must make a key decision when choosing an optional topic for the UPSC Mains. Choosing a subject in which you have some academic background and a genuine interest is a decent rule of thumb. Other factors to consider when choosing an Optional Topic are the subject’s previous UPSC performance, the time required to prepare for the subject, the subject’s contribution to the General Studies syllabus, and the tutoring available in the subject.
